Amazon Error - 8 Manfrotto Ball Heads Too Many

Being inspired after reading Rich Legg's article about his new monopod set up, I ordered a new Manfrotto 334B Automatic Monopod and Manfrotto 486RC2 Compact Ball Head with RC2 Rapid Connect System from Amazon. Today a kind of heavy package arrived from Amazon. My initial thought was that this was pretty strange since I knew the ball head was not very big and the monopod would be a long box. So anyway, I opened the box and this is what I found.

A large box labelled 486RC2. OK, cool this was the ball head I ordered. But why so heavy. Was I really going to want to lug this thing around being this heavy?

So I opened the Manfrotto box and found this:

Yes, that is right. 9 individual boxes each containing a ball head. They sent me the 1 Manfrotto ball head box. The box that held the boxes, not the box with the ball head itself. I just about hit the floor. And clearly someone had carefully removed 1 of the ball heads from this box itself. Maybe I will get that missing sibling in the mail next week.

So now I have a box of 9 perfectly new Manfrotto 486RC2 Compact Ball Heads with RC2 Rapid Connect System.

It is like in Monopoly - bank error in your favor, collect $599.92, which is the retail price of the other 8 ball heads that I don't need.

I know what I am going to do. But I am curious what you would do.

Send them back for Karma points - or E-Bay to move them before the fuzz find out

Gotta send 'em back. It's the right thing to do. Amazon may or may not find out and track it to you by shipping weight discrepancy. 9 ball heads weigh much more than 1 ball head.

Thanks all. Yeah, I am returning them. Figure at some point either Karma would catch up with me or my own feeling of right and wrong. Hard to feel sorry for a large company like that but on the other hand it was likely some regular guy on the packing line who made the mistake and might now have his or her boss after them for sending out $600 worth of extra merchandise. Maybe this will help them keep their job. I know it is all likely to have not been missed at all, and I am just romanticizing it. Still not my stuff and it does not cost me anything but a few minutes time to fix their problem.

I'd send 'em back too. It's just not right to take something you didn't pay for, no matter how large the company is that made the mistake.

I bet they sent you the wrong box. The box of the one head they removed from the case is what they meant to ship.

I agree with everyone send them back. Karma will always catch up with you. I would at least ask Amazon on pay for the return shipping.

Haha... great! Just had the same experience with another company. I also thought it was a extremely heavy ballhead, but I didn't want to open the box, because it was for a present. Then I googled and found your pictures - thanks :)

Just called the company and they were very happy :) Sending them back when I get a shipping label from them.
