Fall is Coming

We all went for a nature hike around Sapsucker Woods on Sunday. Sapsucker is the location of the Cornell Ornithology Lab (scientists who study birds). This was a great little find for us (ok, we are new to the area). The kids had a great time. We saw a tree snake, frogs, deer, turtles on a log, woodpeckers, rabbits, and lots of different kinds of birds. It was nice to get out and stretch out legs. We could also tell during our walk that fall was on its way. Most of the forest was still in summer green but some trees were turning, the ferns were dying, and the goldenrod was in the final splashes of color. And the fact that we are getting 30-40 degree nights now helps.

Thanks for stopping by.

Lucky me, as I was reading your other posts, you added this one. I was noticing the some the trees whild driving near the village of Jordan this weekend.

Since you are new to the area, you want to check out Watkins Glen or Letchworth State Park for fall foliage next month.

THanks very much Scott. I am definitely going to check them out. Everyone has said fall is beautiful up here but you are the first to give me some specifics on where to head. Thank you.

I haven't been to Sapsucker woods yet. I've seen it mentioned before, but it never crosses my mind when I'm trying to figure out a place to go. I'm going to have to get to Letchworth State Park too. I haven't been there either.

Sapsucker is very nice. And with all the birds and wildlife around there lots of interesting things to shoot.
